At kyu, as two resilient women from Lebanon—the smallest country in the Middle East—we felt a deep need to express ourselves boldly through design. Together, we decided to break free from the traditions, judgments, and self-doubt that have shaped us and held so many women back.
Breaking Free from Traditions
When we first came together to create our first collection, we wanted to transform our thoughts and emotions into physical objects through our products, blending metal pieces and chains. As we know, chains traditionally symbolize confinement, but in our designs, we have reimagined them as symbols of a new kind of freedom. These chains can easily be removed, no longer holding us down. What once stood for oppression has become an accessory of strength, resilience, and confidence. The chains that once confined now adorn, reminding us that our obstacles have become part of our power.
Breaking Free from Judgment
Geometry, with its rigid structures, often mirrors the institutions that suppress women. But we took those sharp, institutional edges and shaped them into something unique. Our bags feature bold, angular lines, giving women full control over their style and choices. We want women to break free from societal judgments and self-doubt, allowing their individuality to shine. Why settle for basic, predictable designs when you can embrace something unique, just like you?
Breaking Free from Conventional Luxury
Luxury isn’t found in labels or price tags—it’s found in the woman herself. At kyu, we believe that a woman is the essence of true luxury. She embodies originality, authenticity, and beauty, and we wanted our designs to reflect that. Instead of following conventional standards, we chose eco-friendly, cruelty-free materials. After much searching, we discovered high-quality leftover vegan leather and paired it with recycled materials. The real value of our designs lies in their story, craftsmanship, and sustainability—just like the true value of a woman lies in who she is.
